Canyonlands National Park, Utah

We only visited the Island in the Sky section of Canyonlands National Park. Getting to this section of the park requires driving up and on top of a series of mesas. The drive itself is worth the trip to Island in the Sky.

  Island in the Sky

Mesas along the drive to the park entrance.

  Shafer and Buck Canyons

Shafer Canyon is the first of the canyons along Island in the Sky. The canyons look as though they had been gouged out of the ground with a large claw. The view from Buck Canyon overlook is not as impressive.

  Grand View Point Overlook

The nicest view in Island in the Sky is at the Grand View Point overlook. We did a short 2 mile round trip around the Grand View Point.

  White Rim Overlook

After Grand View Point, we did a 3 mile hike to get a closer look at Monument Basin.

  Green River Overlook

It started to rain during our hike to White Rim Overlook. It was still raining when we arrived at the Green River Overlook.

  Upheaval Dome

The rain stopped just as we started to hike to the two Upheaval Dome overlooks. The view from the second overlook is not very different from the first.

  Mesa Arch

The 1 mile Mesa Arch trail was our last hike of the day.
