Dover Castle

We visited Dover to see the white cliffs and Dover Castle. Dover Castle was built in 1180 and is remarkably intact. There are a series of tunnels and caves that were used in World War 2 as the headquarters for the Dunkirk evacuation and as a hospital.

Another surprisingly sunny day in southern England.

         

         

Top of Dover Castle

Because of the excellent weather, the views were very good from the top of the keep.

         

         

     

St Mary's Church and the Roman Lighthouse.

St Mary's Church dates from 1000 AD and the Roman Lighthouse dates from 100 AD.

         

   

White Cliffs

I was not as impressed by the white cliffs of Dover as I thought I would be.
