The Southwest States

The Southwest States
Serene and I spent our 2006 Spring break travelling with Eric and Janet to the American Southwest. We visited Chaco Culture Historical Park, Mesa Verde, Canyon de Chelley, Monument Valley, Arches National Park, and Canyonlands National Park.

Chaco Canyon has nice ruins but the backdrop isn't quite as scenic as, for example, Mesa Verde.

Mesa Verde's cliff dwellings are stunning when the first time you catch a glimpse of them from above. Unfortunately, the park doesn't let you go down to the ruins in March except for Spruce Tree House. We passed Shiprock on the way to Canyon de Chelley.

Canyon de Chelley was a last minute substitution on our itinerary after we decided to skip Hovenweep. It was a good decision because Canyon de Chelley turned out to be incredibly scenic.

Monument Valley truly lives up to its reputation for spectacular views.

We caught a great sunset at Delicate Arch at Arches National Park but the next day's light at both Canyonlands and Arches wasn't very good.
